Fans at the Staples Center in Los Angeles were treated to a late Fight of the Year contender on Saturday night as Errol Spence Jr. and Shawn Porter threw down for 12 hard rounds, pummeling each other right up to the final bell. Spence would walk away with a split decision victory, with two judges giving him the fight 116-111 and a third handing it to Porter 115-112. We had the bout scored 116-111 Spence as well.
Porter was a big underdog coming into the fight but turned things into a brawl, exactly what he had to do against the former Olympic boxer. He came out aggressive and really started to back Spence up in the third and fourth rounds. But Spence turned things around in the second half of the fight, and while the two men threw almost exactly the same number of punches (745 to 744), Spence was more accurate (221 to 172).
An 11th round knockdown sealed the deal and allows him to walk away with no questions asked about unifying the IBF and WBC welterweight belts. Let’s watch some of the action, care of PBC Boxing on FOX Sports:

So what’s next for Errol Spence Jr.”
”I’m the only unified champion,” Spence said after. “The next fight I do want is Manny Pacquiao. But if not, I’ll go against my man Danny Garcia. Just like I tell Al Haymon, you line them up and I will knock them down.”
Considering Garcia ended up in the ring after the fight, we think we know which way Al Haymon’s mind is going.
