Kevin Holland picked up his fifth win of 2020 last Saturday night (Dec. 12, 2020) after knocking out Ronaldo Souza in the very first of their UFC 256 Middleweight scrap inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
And while “Trail Blazer” took the opportunity to call out Khamzat Chimaev for a fight as early as this Saturday night (Dec. 19, 2020) at UFC Vegas 17, that is unlikely to happen. But “Borz” isn’t the only man on Holland’s radar, as he is also eying a fight against Derek Brunson.
And the reason’s behind his desire to “beat him up” are unique.
“I want to beat Derek Brunson because I don’t like the way he strikes. It just looks awkward,” said Holland on a recent interview with Ariel Helwani. “It’s like a disrespect to striking. It’s sad that he’s knocked out strikers before that weird striking.”
Brunson — who has seven knockouts in his UFC career — can also be an overly-aggressive striker at times. And while that is not necessarily a bad thing it has gotten him in trouble a few times in his career.
A matchup against Brunson — one which we personally agree with — seems ideal since both he and Holland are on great runs with Derek winning his last three and “Trail Blazer” his last five bouts.
And since Chimaev is in line to face off against Leon Edwards on Jan. 20, 2021, now is a good a time as any to book Holland vs. Brunson.
