Despite three judges scoring the fight in favour of Alex Volkanovski, Max Holloway feels he was hard done by at UFC 245.

Max Holloway has expressed his frustration at the judges’ decisions after suffering his second decision loss of 2019, this time to Alex Volkanovski at UFC 245 this past weekend.

Holloway (21-5) lost his UFC featherweight title and suffered his first defeat in fourteen fights at 145-pounds when he dropped a decision to Volkanovski. ‘Blessed’ also lost a decision earlier this year to Dustin Poirier at UFC 236, missing out on the interim lightweight title that night.

When asked about his thoughts on the fight with Volkanovski, Holloway believed apart from a feeling out process in the first round, he took over in the second and won every round after that.

“First round, I was feeling him out, so he did what he did in the first round,” Holloway told MMA Fighting. “Second round I thought I was taking over and then three, four, five, I thought was mine.”

Although Volkanovski stated after the fight he wouldn’t say no to an immediate rematch with Holloway, ‘Blessed’ said he will sit down with UFC president Dana White soon to talk about his next fight.

“But they saw it another way,” Holloway said about the judges scorecards. “There’s only three opinions that matter. Like the great Burt Watson said, don’t leave that s—t to the judges, they’re gonna make you cry. They made me cry twice in 2019, so let’s choo-choo forward to 2020, new year, new me.”
