It’s been a busy week for former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight champion Max Holloway. Not only did “Blessed” get engaged to pro surfer Alessa Quizon, he also accepted a Jan. 16 main event against 145-pound contender Calvin Kattar.
This will be the first non-title fight for Holloway (21-6) since capturing the featherweight strap against Jose Aldo back in summer 2017. The Hawaiian is looking to rebound from back-to-back decision losses to newly-crowned division kingpin Alexander Volkanovski.
As for Kattar (22-4), sitting just outside the Top 5 at No. 6, he’s looking to extend his winning streak to three after taking consecutive victories over Jeremy Stephens and Dan Ige. The 32 year-old “Boston Finisher” has now won four of his last five.
The UFC card on Jan. 16 does not have a location as of this writing, but a couple of other matchups have already been announced, including Brian Kelleher vs. Ricky Simon (bantamweight) and Tim Elliott vs. Jordan Espinosa (flyweight).
