“I’m weighing around 210, 220 pounds, I’ll make that walk and I’ll fight him.”
Reigning UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway came up short in his lightweight debut against Dustin Poirier at UFC 236, but ‘Blessed’ is open to moving up in weight again in the future.
Holloway, 27, revealed that he is still interested in challenging Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title and, speaking at a media scrum on Thursday to promote his upcoming featherweight title defense against Frankie Edgar, the Hawaiian joked that he would be willing to move up several weight classes to test himself against reigning heavyweight champ, Daniel Cormier.
“After this fight, if they call me out for August to fight D.C. (Daniel Cormier), guess what? I’m weighing around 210, 220 pounds, I’ll make that walk and I’ll fight him,” Holloway said, per MMA Fighting’s Alexander K. Lee. “You know what I mean? There’s no time in this. If you want to be the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the world, I don’t think you should use weight as an excuse or anything really as an excuse. You just show up to fight.”
Cormier, a former two-division champ, will rematch Stipe Miocic at UFC 241 on Aug. 17, where he will look to cement himself as the undisputed heavyweight king.
Holloway, who hasn’t lost at featherweight in over five years, will defend his 145-pound title against former lightweight champ Edgar at UFC 240. The PPV, which features a co-headlining bout between Cris Cyborg and Felicia Spencer, takes place next week, July 27 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
