“I’m not here to kick a man while he’s down, but I think that fight with me and Conor is on a very short list with the UFC”.

Max Holloway recently hinted of a rematch with Conor McGregor, claiming that the proposed matchup is on one of the UFC’s short lists.

‘Blessed’ believes there would have been serious discussions over the bout had McGregor not lost to Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 but says there is still plenty of time for the UFC to generate interest in a rematch.

“I’m not here to kick a man while he’s down, but I think that fight with me and Conor is on a very short list with the UFC,” Holloway told Brendan Schaub in an episode of Food Truck Diaries (via Middle Easy). “If he was to win the fight (with Poirier) I think it would have been a little bit different, a little bit greater. I think that fight would have happened, but we’ve got nothing but time.”

“He’s not going nowhere, I’m not going nowhere. Build the man back up, I’m going to keep doing my thing, let him do his thing… The UFC, we had talks here and there about it. It’s on a very short list for the UFC and I’m just excited for it.”

A 22-year-old Max Holloway lost to McGregor back in 2013 but the Hawaiian is a completely different fighter today, possessing some of the best boxing and volume striking in the UFC as well as cementing his legacy as one of the greatest featherweight fighters of all time.

The former featherweight king put on a masterclass performance against Calvin Kattar at UFC Fight Island 7 and will go on to fight the winner of the upcoming title bout between Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega in hopes of becoming a two-time champion.

McGregor, meanwhile, is reportedly ‘harassing everybody’ about a rematch with Poirier. Poirier beat McGregor via second-round TKO in the UFC 257 main event last month.
