Holly Holm and Raquel Pennington will have to wait to fight for the second time.
Holly Holm will not have the opportunity to score another spectacular win down under after all.
Holm, a former UFC women’s bantamweight champion, is out of her Oct. 5 rematch with Raquel Pennington at UFC 243 due to an undisclosed injury, ESPN reported Friday. As a result, Pennington has also been pulled from the card, according to MMA Junkie.
UFC 243 takes place at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, the same setting in which Holm knocked out Ronda Rousey in a massive upset to win the UFC belt in 2015.
Holm is 2-5 since that fight. In her last fight, the 37-year-old fell to champion Amanda Nunes via second-round knockout in July.
Pennington bounced back from a two-fight skid in her last fight, defeating Irene Aldana by split decision in July.
Holm and Pennington fought for the first time in early 2015. Holm won a split decision in what was her UFC debut.
UFC 243 is expected to be headlined by a middleweight title bout between champ Robert Whittaker and interim titleholder Israel Adesanya.
