The WBC middleweight title is on the line tonight, as reigning champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) makes his first defense against England’s Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs), a former champion at 140 lbs. While they have the option to decline and subsequently be stripped of the belt, the winner of this fight is supposed to face Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs), who is the interim WBC champion and the mandatory challenger. Whether that actually happens remains to be seen.
