The UFC is in Texas tonight with a light heavyweight title fight between champion, and perennial G.O.A.T candidate, Jon Jones and undefeated challenger Dominick Reyes.
Tonight sees Jones make his fourth title defense since a brief PED-prompted hiatus in 2017. He beat both Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Smith in convincing fashion before having a little more trouble with Thiago Santos; taking a split decision over the Brazilian. Reyes comes into this one off the back of a KO win over former middleweight champion Chris Weidman. His flawless UFC record includes wins over Volkan Oezdemir, Ovince Saint Pruex and Jared Cannonier. Will Reyes upset the order at 205 lbs or will ‘Bones’ continue to show he’s in a league of his own?
The co-main event is a UFC flyweight title fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Katlyn Chookagian. ‘Bullet’ has looked unstoppable at 125 lbs with brutal victories over Priscila Cachoeira and Jessica Eye and comfortable decisions over Joanna J?drzejczyk and Liz Carmouche. Chookagian got here with back-to-back wins over Jennifer Maia and Joanne Calderwood.
Rounding out the pay-per-view are three fights that are unlikely to motivate anyone, outside of immediate family, to cough up $65. Juan Adams vs. Justin Tafa is the heavyweight table-setter for the co-main and main events. Before that is Mirsad Bektic vs. Dan Ige (featherweight) and Derrick Lewis vs. Ilir Latifi (heavyweight).
The prelims, which only air on ESPN in the U.S., are ‘headlined’ by Trevin Giles vs. James Krause (middleweight). The rest of the card includes Alex Morono vs. Kalinn Williams (welterweight), Lauren Murphy vs. Andrea Lee (flyweight) and Miles Johns vs. Mario Bautista.
The early prelims are on ESPN+ (U.S.) and UFC Fight Pass (everywhere else). That portion of the card has three offerings tonight. Journey Newsom vs. Domingo Pilante (bantamweight), Andre Ewell vs. Jonathan Martinez (bantamweight) and Austin Lingo vs. Youseff Zalal.
