Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight power-puncher, Mark Hunt, is in mourning this week after losing a family member during the Christchurch massacre back on March 15 in New Zealand.
The attack, which killed 50 people and injured 50 more, was streamed on Facebook Live.
“The support here in New Zealand has been so great, we’re lost for words,” Hunt wrote on Facebook. “I live in Auckland but went down to Christchurch after hearing about the shooting. Sadly, I lost my uncle in the shooting.”
The alleged suspect, Brenton Tarrant, is a resident of Australia with no criminal past, but used five guns in what is being described as a premeditated attack against a pair of Mosques during Friday prayer.
Already booked on one count of murder, Tarrant returns to court on April 5, where he is expected to receive addition charges.
As for Hunt, the aging “Super Samoan” finished up his UFC contract at the promotion’s Adelaide event last December, but is expected to resurface under the RIZIN banner in Japan later this year.
