“Durinho” is almost done with fighting.
Former UFC Welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns finally returns to action at UFC Vegas 97 this weekend (Sat., Sept. 7, 2024) against surging contender Sean Brady from inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Burns has not been in action since his TKO loss to Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 299 in March (watch highlights). “Durinho” has been on the sidelines recovering from injuries since the fight.
In the lead-up to his main event fight against Brady, Burns revealed that he doesn’t have many fights left.
“I’m getting freaking old,” Burns told Grind City Media. “10 years in the UFC has been very good, but I don’t know how much longer. I still got a couple fights left in me, so I’m not here for a long time. I still think I have a couple of good fights left – not a lot. Not two hands full of fights, but we still got at least one handful of fights left.”
Burns turned 38 two months ago in July, and while that isn’t a crazy age in mixed martial arts, there is no doubt that fighters, especially in lighter weight classes start to diminish. Well, unless you’re Jim Miller.
Burns is on the first two-fight losing streak of his career.
