It’s not over for “Joker.”
Wang Cong suffered her first professional loss at UFC Macau this past weekend (Sat., Nov. 23, 2024) when Gabriella Fernandes pulled a gigantic upset by submitting Cong in the second via rear-naked choke, putting her to sleep from inside Galaxy Arena in Macau, SRA, China (watch highlights).
Yesterday, Cong issued a statement on her Instagram.
Thanks for those who came out on Saturday night and fans supported me,” Cong wrote. “This is the fight game, one mistake can cost you the match. But I’m good, no injuries and in good spirit. I still believe I’m the one without doubt. I will come back soon UFC. Also congratulations Gabriella, thank you for taking the fight. Hope you enjoy the China trip.”
Cong, 32, had a ridiculous amount of hype put upon her after she smoked Victoria Leonardo in one minute (watch highlights) in her Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut.
Some of the hype came from the vicious knockout, and some came from the fact that “Joker” has a win over Valentina Shevchenko in kickboxing.
Nevertheless, even though Cong lost to Fernandes, who is 2-2 inside the Octagon, there still might be some promise left in the exciting Chinese prospect … or it was a classic fraud check.
