“The Diamond” wants a piece of “El Matador.”
Ilia Topuria became the first man to knockout Max Holloway at UFC 308 this past weekend (Sat., Oct. 26, 2024) while defending his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight championship for the first time from inside Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE (watch highlights).
UFC legend and former interim Lightweight champion Dustin Poirier attended UFC 308 while doing broadcast work for ESPN, and it’s safe to say he was impressed with Topuria’s knockout win.

Yesterday (Oct. 27, 2024), “The Diamond” took to his Twitter to call his shot.
“I want Max or Topuria,” Poirier wrote. “He’s a great boxer let’s throw them things.”

It’s highly doubtful that Poirier and Topuria will fight each other next because it makes no sense, plus the Featherweight champion has a rematch with Alexander Volkanovski coming down the pipe.
But if Poirier were to throw hands with “El Matador,” it would undoubtedly be an awesome fight because both men have been in the conversation for “best boxer in the UFC.”
If “The Diamond” truly wants to fight Topuira, he will have to squash his retirement plans because the bout won’t be anytime soon.
Poirier also called for a trilogy fight with Holloway, which makes much more sense. Holloway also said he wants to fight Poirier for a third time during the UFC 308 post-fight press conference (watch here).
