Top UFC flyweight contender Ian McCall was set to face off against Brazilian John Lineker in the co-main event spot on Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 56 in Uberlandia, Brazil. Both McCall and Lineker had made the contracted weight limits on Friday. However, UFC President Dana White teased on Friday McCall might be out of the bout with an unspecified illness.
The UFC confirmed and made that news official early Saturday morning with a release.
“With flyweight contender Ian McCall taking ill after Friday’s weigh-ins in Uberlandia, Brazil, he has been forced to withdraw from his UFC Fight Night co-main event against John Lineker,” they said.
No replacement will be sought for Lineker. According to the UFC, UFC Fight Night 56 will proceed with just 10 bouts. The updated fight card is as follows:
