Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned to ESPN+ last Sat. night (May 4, 2019) for the UFC Fight Night 151: “Iaquinta vs. Cowboy” mixed martial arts (MMA) event inside Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
That’s where longtime lightweight “Cowboy,” Donald Cerrone, put a whoopin’ on fellow 155-pound slugger, Al Iaquinta. In fact, “Ragin’ Al” took so much abuse across 25 minutes of action, that Ontario Office of the Athletics Commissioner sent him to the sidelines for six months.
In addition, Sarah Moras was hit with a 60-day sit following her drubbing at the hands of Macy Chiasson, while Sergey Spivak drew his own three-month suspension — which also requires medical clearance — after getting pounded out by Walt Harris.
Here are the rest of the UFC Ottawa medical suspensions (courtesy of MMA Junkie):
14-day suspensions:
Donald Cerrone
Derek Brunson
Elias Theodorou
Shane Burgos
Brad Katona
Walt Harris
Marc-Andre Barriault
Macy Chiasson
Aiemann Zahabi
Nordine Taleb
Kyle Prepolec
Arjan Bhullar
Cole Smith
Mitch Gagnon
Matt Sayles (and medical clearance)
30-day suspensions:
Merab Dvalishvili
Cub Swanson (and medical clearance)
Vince Morales (and medical clearance)
Juan Adams (and medical clearance)
Andrew Sanchez (medical clearance)
Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
