Longtime trainer, Firas Zahabi, would have you believe that former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, who also held gold at 185 pounds, remains in such good shape that a short-notice title fight would be just another day at the office.

Assuming that fight was not being contested at lightweight.

I guess Zahabi and Co. will have to keep their options open now that UFC has once again given division No. 1 contender, Tony Ferguson, the next crack at the 155-pound crown, despite some early talk that “The Eagle” would instead face St-Pierre.

“He’s a machine,” Zahabi told Joe Rogan. “Dude, I’m telling you, if Usman or Colby gets injured… I don’t want to talk for Georges but man, he can kill anybody. He can kill anybody this man. He’s the world’s greatest martial artist. He’s a monster. I was just training with him Saturday.”

St-Pierre (26-2) has fought just once over the last six years, a one-off against Michael Bisping at UFC 217 back in late 2017. Following some cockamamie story about his intestines self-destructing, “Rush” exited stage left for the second time in his UFC career.

That’s probably white this guy is so annoyed.

If something happened to Kamaru Usman or Colby Covington and the UFC 245 main event was in jeopardy, the promotion would probably ask Jorge Masvidal to step in. As for St-Pierre, 38, he should probably keep working on that 155-pound weight cut.
