Sean Strickland isn’t going back “down under.”

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight champion Strickland is waiting for a phone call to tell him when his next fight will be. However, there is one catch: it will not be in the country where he claimed UFC gold.

“I’m not fighting in Australia. We’re thinking Vegas in March,” Strickland wrote on Twitter. I have a love for the Aussies BUT I don’t think you’re government likes me… Which I take as a compliment!! Hate speech isn’t real and ill always speak up for my kangaroo homies!!!!!! FRRRRREEEEEDDDOOOOOMM!”

Three months ago (Aug. 2024), UFC CEO Dana White deemed Strickland the No. 1 contender for the Middleweight title and promised him a rematch against Dricus Du Plessis who snatched the belt earlier this year. However, in the months since the boss positioned “Tarzan” as the next title challenger, Khamzat Chimaev demolished Robert Whittaker and possibly leapfrogged the foul-mouthed former champion.

The only problem is that Chimaev can’t fight in Australia because of his shady war-criminal dictator friend.

If Du Plessis doesn’t have anyone to fight in Australia—which it seems is where he wants to fight—“Stillknocks” will have no problem competing in Las Vegas as he has fought in “Sin City” five out of his eight fights inside the UFC.

But then again, Du Plessis holds all the cards, so if he wants to fight “down under,” he will.
