Invicta FC has set an April date for its next event, a show that will feature two championship fights as well as the organizational debut of former Strikeforce champ Sarah Kaufman.
The show, Invicta FC 5, does not have an exact date, but the April scheduling was announced during the broadcast of Saturday night’s event.
According to company president Shannon Knapp, Kaufman is set to compete at the date.
Kaufman hasn’t fought since last August, when she lost the bantamweight championship to Ronda Rousey in a first-round armbar loss. She had been set to fight at Invicta’s October 2012 event before an injury knocked her off the card.
While she is still under contract to Strikeforce, the promotion has had a working relationship with Invicta, a development that may be re-examined as the UFC absorbs the talent on the Strikeforce roster.
An opponent was not named for Kaufman, who is 15-2 in her career.
The event will also feature two title fights. The first will feature the promotion’s inaugural flyweight championship, as Vanessa Porto and Barb Honchak are matched together.
Porto is 15-5 overall, and in her most recent match defeated Tara LaRosa in a unanimous decision. Honchak will take a six-fight win streak into the fight that’s taken her record to 7-2. That streak has included wins over Felice Herrig, Roxanne Modaferri and Aisling Daly.
Atomweight champion Jessica Penne will attempt to defend her championship on the card, although her opponent remains to be determined. Penne earned the title at Invicta FC 3, when she submitted Naho Sugiyama.
