Invicta Fighting Championships have announced their first show of 2020. According to a company press release, Invicta FC 39 will take place on February 7th at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS. Headlining the event is a rematch for the Invicta FC atomweight title.

Jinh Yu Frey (8-4) won the vacant Invicta 105 lb title in 2018 after a controversial decision victory over Minna Grusander. Five months later Frey defended the title in a rematch with Grusander. Her only action in 2019 was a loss to Ayaka Hamasaki at RIZIN 16.

At Invicta FC 39 Frey will defend her belt for the second time against Ashley ‘Smashley’ Cummins (7-4). The pair were supposed to fight last year, but an injury to Cummins scuppered that. Frey and Cummins first fought in 2017, at Invicta FC 24. Cummins won that fight, by unanimous decision, and will be keen to repeat that in February.

Cummins sat out all of 2019. In 2018 she had back-to-back wins over Stephanie Alba and Jèssica Delboni.

The co-main event of Invicta FC 39 will determine the number one contender in the flyweight division. Hoping for a shot at gold are Pearl Gonzalez (10-4) and Miranda Maverick (6-2). ‘The Chi-Town Princess’ Gonzalez is hoping to earn a second crack at champ Vanessa Porto, who she lost to by technical decision at Invicta FC 34 last year. Maverick won this opportunity versus Gonzalez after crushing the competition at the most recent Invicta Phoenix Series one-night tournament.

Also on the card is Kazakh flyweight Mariya Agapova (8-1) who has impressed with two first round stoppage victories since joining Invicta last year. She’ll face Daiana Torquato (9-3), who beat Milana Dudieva and lost to DeAnna Bennett at last year’s Phoenix Series tourney.

Here’s the fully announced card:
