Invicta Fighting Championships entered the world of mixed martial arts earlier this year, putting together the first North American all female events, partnering with Japan’s Jewels promotion.
Promotion president Shannon Knapp is very happy with her companies success so far, putting on two events which streamed free over the internet this past April and July. The biggest issues so far seem to be the internet servers used by Invicta for the live events, as the sheer number of viewers has bogged down the streams at the start of each event.
Knapp knows the internet stream is just one of the few “struggles” Invicta FC has had so far, maintaining that despite these issues both shows have been very successful.
Talking to MMAWeekly.com, Knapp promises fans an even bigger event for the Invicta’s third showing.
“I know we had some struggles in the beginning underestimating the amount of traffic we’d have (for the live internet stream), the concurrent connection to our server crashed in the beginning, but we were able to recover from that. Overall it was incredibly successful; the fighters did amazing jobs that night and I thought the fights were as exciting as any out there.”
The company recently released the fight card for their third event, and according to Knapp, it could be even better than the two previous events.
“This is an exciting card for us because we’re having our first title match ever between Jewels champ Naho Sugiyama and Jessica Penne at atomweight (105 pounds),” said Knapp. “Honestly, this card is more stacked than the last card. I didn’t think I’d be able to say that, but it actually is from top to bottom with the athletes that are going to compete.”
Invicta FC 3 is expected to take place on October 6, 2012 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. The card for the event is already set with thirteen matches on the night. As noted, the first Invicta FC title will be on the line, as atomweights Jessica Penne and Naho Sugiyama battle in the shows main event.
