An important fight in the women’s bantamweight division has been added to UFC 264 in July.
Amanda Nunes is set to fight Julianna Pena for the 135-pound title next, and the winner of that bout may just face off with the winner of a matchup that’s been added to UFC 264. ESPN Deportes is reporting that fellow top-ranked women’s bantamweights Irene Aldana and Yana Kunitskaya have agreed to meet in the Octagon on July 10th.
Aldana (12-6, 5-4 UFC) had been on an impressive win streak that included a picture-perfect KO of Ketlen Vieira in late 2019. Following that though, she ran into perennial contender Holly Holm in her first main event, dropping a five-round decision to Holm by a wide margin.
Kunitskaya (14-5, 1 NC, 4-2 UFC), a former women’s featherweight title challenger, has picked up wins in four out of her last five fights and the last two overall. She’s coming off a decision win over Vieira in February.
Aldana currently sits in the four spot in the women’s bantamweight rankings, with Kunitskaya right behind her at five.
UFC 264 goes down July 10th, and will be headlined by a third fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier.
