And Still! And … NEW?
Islam Makhachev is now the all-time leader in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight title wins (4) as he ran through Renato Moicano at UFC 311 last night (Sat., Jan. 18, 2025) from inside the brand-new Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California (watch highlights).
The 33-year-old Russian also claimed the No. 1 pound-for-pound (P4P) spot for the best fighter in the world in his boss, UFC CEO Dana White’s eyes – even though he’s been ranked at the top spot for several months.
“Yeah, I’ll give it to him,” White told the media when asked about the P4P spot. “Is everyone happy now?”
White went on a rampage for the past year, declaring that UFC Heavyweight champion Jon Jones is the No. 1 P4P and that everyone is dumb if they don’t agree.
Can we all agree that White has had P4P and greatest of all the time (G.O.A.T) mixed up this entire time, and the UFC head honcho just ran with it because he didn’t want to reveal he was wrong?
Nevertheless, Makhachev is riding a 15-fight win streak and is on the brink of tying Anderson Silva’s all-time winning streak record (16). He has also finished eight of his last nine opponents.
