Light heavyweight great Jon Jones certainly had time for these kids when he saw them ready to tag up some spots.
While 2020 has been a whirlwind for most of us, it’s been a truly odd one for Jon Jones. After being arrested earlier this year and hit with a DWI charge (although he faced no penalties from the UFC as a result), he made a promise to turn things around once again.
And then came this past week’s online sniping with boss Dana White, regarding a possible move up to heavyweight. The banter has escalated over money, and led Jones to claim he was in fact giving up his championship title over what he feels is disrespect and poor treatment.
Soon after, we see something different from Jones. Out on the streets of Albuquerque, Jones encountered some presumed protesters with cans of spraypaint, only to put the brakes on it and tell them to scram.
Is this shit even about George Floyd anymore?!? Why the f—k are you punk ass teenagers destroying our cities!?? As a young black man trust me I’m frustrated as well but this is not the way, we are starting to make a bad situation worse. If you really got love for your city (505), protect your shit. All you old heads need to speak up, call your young family members and tell them to come home tonight.
Jones managed to confiscate the cans of spraypaint and send the youngsters off, preventing further property damage.
Jones has also been quite outspoken about the grief and pain he’s experienced as a result from the national news story that has now resulted in riots across the country. While he’s very clearly angered at the situation, he wasn’t happy to see a couple of kids vandalizing. He also posted a photo of George Lloyd as a tribute.
You also may remember the incident in 2011, where just hours before obliterating legend Shogun Rua to win the light heavyweight belt, Jones and his coaches apprehended a mugger on the streets of New Jersey. Jones isn’t a stranger to taking action when he sees something happen around him.
Let’s just hope he doesn’t take that spraypaint on a drive to a certain mansion in Vegas.
