A second bout has been added to this September’s upcoming Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy event pitting Isaac Vallie-Flagg (13-3-1) against promotion newcomer Adriano Martins (23-6) in a lightweight bout.
Officials with the Strikeforce promotion announced the new bout on Thursday, adding it to the card on the events official webpage bringing the total number of matches to two.
Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy is expected to take place on September 29, 2012 at the Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento, California with the main card airing on SHOWTIME and the prelim card likely airing on SHOWTIME Extreme. Headlining the event is a lightweight title bout between champ Gilbert Melendez and title challenger Pat Healy.
This bout will mark Vallie-Flag’s third appearance in the Strikeforce cage having made his drop to lightweight in his last bout. The Jackson’s MMA product won a split decision over Gesias Cavalcante last May at the Barnett vs. Cormier show, pushing his current streak to 10-0-1. Vallie-Flag’s other appearance was a split decision victory versus Brian Melancon.
Martins has competed mostly in his native Brazil and enters this fight on a four fight win streak going 10-1 record over his last eleven. His most recent win came in March with a 62-second TKO victory over opponent Jimmy Donahue at a Jungle Fights show. Martins has earned eleven (T)KO finishes, two submission victories, and ten wins by decision over his career.
