Add Israel Adesanya to the list of bettors who got hosed on Saturday night when Garcia beat Haney from pillar to post in their Brooklyn boxing bout.
Ryan Garcia trolled a whole lot of people into thinking he had no chance on Saturday night against Devin Haney, and that led to a lot of degenerate gamblers losing a ton of money.
Evein with some bookies having Haney an 8 to 1 favorite, there were a lot of bettors feeling like “The Dream” was sure money considering the insane antics from Garcia. That included former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, who took to Twitter prior to the fight to share a $20,000 bet he’d made on Haney to win.
“The Last Stylebender” got +100 odds on Haney hitting a KO on Garcia. If he’d won, he would have doubled his money. Unfortunately for Izzy, Haney didn’t knock Garcia out. Instead, it was Garcia that nearly finished Haney, knocking the WBC super lightweight down multiple times en route to a majority decision win (watch the highlights here).

And just like that, Israel’s $20,000 was gone.
Adesanya is no stranger to losing MMA bets. Since becoming a Stake ambassador in 2021, “Stylebender” has laid several large sums down with the company to iffy results. He bet $8000 on Jose Aldo beating Merab Dvalishvili back in 2022 (Aldo lost a one-sided decision), and spread $20,000 across two bets on Francis Ngannou beating Tyson Fury (tough loss there with Fury winning a questionable decision).
That’s a lot of money for the average bettor to lose, but we have our doubts Adesanya is even playing with his own money. Stake undoubtedly pays him well to rep the brand and promote these bets. That $20,000 he just lost on Haney vs. Garcia could have been house money as part of the overall deal.
Easy come, easy go when you’re a star on the level of “The Last Stylebender.” But a few more bad bets like this, and Izzy could gain a similar rep to fellow Stake ambassador Drake when it comes to cursing the fighters he bets on.
