Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight No. 1 contender, Ronaldo Souza, announced on social media that he was booked to fight surging 185-pound slugger Derek Brunson, who recently confirmed the upcoming showdown.
They just can’t seem to figure out where.
“UFC offered me Derek Brunson to fight on February 3rd at UFC FN 125, Belem do Para, Brazil,” Souza wrote on Twitter. “I hope he doesn’t come up with excuses about the location and date of event.”
“That’s weird, I accepted for Jan 27 in Charlotte, NC,” Brunson replied. “I’ll be in touch after this weekend’s fight! See you in NC.”
Souza and Brunson are ranked No. 5 and No. 7, respectively.
“Jacare” (24-5, 1 NC) was one win away from competing for the middleweight title, but the formidable fists of Robert Whittaker — who went on to capture the interim title — put him down for the count at UFC on FOX 24 last April
Brunson (18-5), meanwhile, was embroiled in a Twitter war with Paulo Costa prior to accepting his fight against Souza, a rematch from their Strikeforce clash in summer 2012 when the Brazilian scored a first-round knockout.
