Top Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight contender Ronaldo Souza is less than a week removed from his technical knockout victory over Vitor Belfort (video), which took place in the UFC 198 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event last weekend (Sat., May 14, 2016) inside Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil.

But his win over “The Phenom” did not come without a price.

“Jacare” injured his knee in training camp and was forced to undergo surgery to repair his meniscus, which not only sidelined him for the next two-to-three months, according to Ariel Helwani,  but also robbed him of the opportunity to rematch Luke Rockhold for the middleweight title.

Instead, that honor will go to Michael Bisping, who takes over for the injured Chris Weidman at the upcoming UFC 199 PPV extravaganza next month in Los Angeles, Calif. (more on that fight here). The winner is likely to face Souza later this year.

Depending on when this guy gets back.
