MMA: UFC 224- Ronaldo vs Gastelum

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is headed back to “The Big Apple,” as UFC 244 is set to go down on November 2, 2019 from inside Madison Square Garden in New York City. Fighting inside the “World’s Most Famous Arena” is a dream for many, which is why combatants are quick to throw their name in the hat for spot on the card.

Among them is Kelvin Gastelum, who took to social media to plead with the UFC higher-ups for a fight at the pay-per-view (PPV) event. And it didn’t take long for him to find a willing dance partner, as Ronaldo Souza toot the chance to call for a rematch.

The two talented Middleweights initially threw down at UFC 224 in May of 2018, with Kelvin scoring the split-decision win after 15 minutes of back-and-forth action, which ultimately left “Jacare” with a bad taste in his mouth.

Since then, Souza has gone 1-1 inside the Octagon, knocking out Chris Weidman at UFC 230 (see it), before losing a decision to Jack Hermansson six months later. Alternating wins and losses since 2017 has stalled Souza’s momentum and hops of getting a shot at the title.

Kelvin, meanwhile, has only competed once since defeating the submission specialist, losing to Israel Adesanya via unanimous decision earlier this year at UFC 236 in a wild interim title fight (highlights). Since he defeated “Jacare” barely a year ago, running it back might not be too appealing for the Ultimate Fighter (TUF) winner.

That said, does it interest you?

While no main event has yet-to-be confirmed for the event, a couple of big matchups have already been booked, as Derrick Lewis will face Blagoy Ivanov in Heavyweight action, while Johnny Walker and Corey Anderson get it on for the potential right to challenge for Jon Jones’ Light Heavyweight title fight down the line.
