Jacare willing to fight ‘everyone’ since ‘chicken’ Bisping is taking on ‘dirty’ Romero

Why did the UFC book Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza against Tim Boetsch? With the title shot not coming, Jacare was willing to fight whoever he could.

If you’re going to fight as a method of income, at some point you actually have to fight. Just ask Mark Hunt, as his holdout against the UFC came to an end as when faced with that reality. “I can’t work anywhere else, so what am I supposed to do – let my family starve?” the ‘Super Samoan’ told reporters.

And it looks like (although certainly with much less surrounding drama) UFC middleweight top contender Jacare Souza has come to the same conclusions. With a title shot against Michael Bisping not forthcoming, he needed to get back in the cage and take a fight, any fight. So, when the UFC offered him Tim Boetsch, he didn’t hesitate to accept.

“My idea was to fight – that was my goal,” Souza told MMAjunkie ahead of Feb. 11’s UFC 208 middleweight scrap at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. “I accepted everyone that was offered to me, and I accepted Boetsch. So it was kind of, I had to accept. There’s only that option. It’s him or him.”

Jacare soldiers on in the hope that if he keeps beating whoever the UFC puts in front of him, his success will take him to the title. In the mean time, he’s stuck with the reality that the next bout for the 185 strap will most likely be Yoel Romero against Michael Bisping.

“I believe (Bisping vs. Romero) will happen,” Souza said. “The dirty one, because Romero is a dirty fighter, against the chicken, the scared one – Bisping. So it will be kind of a weird fight. The dirty (fighter) against the chicken. I believe this will be the fight.”

And while Souza isn’t one to pick his opponents, he wouldn’t mind getting a chance to avenge losses to Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero if the opportunity presented itself.

“Luke ran,” Souza said. “That’s all I can say about this. Both against him and against Romero, I lost to the judges. I was going to prove this now, but unfortunately Luke either got hurt or pretended he got hurt. I don’t know.”

UFC 208 goes down next month in Brooklyn, New York. The card will be headlined by a women’s featherweight title fight between Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie. The bout order hasn’t been finalized yet, but it’s expected that Jacare vs. Boetsch will secure a spot on the PPV portion of the event.
