The City of Scottsdale is refiling the misdemeanor charges against Jake Paul for his alleged involvement in the mall looting amid the George Floyd protests in 2020.
Back in May 2020, Jake Paul got himself in hot water when he decided to roam inside an Arizona mall amid a George Floyd protest. The scene turned ugly when some people began looting and vandalizing the place.
The 24-year-old Paul was seen walking around and even filming, but didn’t seem to participate in the fracas and denied doing so. Videos of him during the incident were also posted on social media by his own photographer.
Paul was initially charged with two misdemeanors: criminal trespassing and unlawful assembly, which the Scottsdale city attorney eventually dropped when the FBI launched its own investigation. These charges weren’t pursued, citing a lack of evidence.
Now, the city of Scottsdale has decided to refile the said charges. According to close sources from TMZ, which first reported the news, Paul is due for a court date on September 6th. If found guilty, he could face a maximum sentence of one year in jail.
Paul is no stranger to run-ins with the law. His most recent one happened in May when local authorities in Puerto Rico put him under investigation for allegedly using a motorized vehicle on a protected beach. No charges were filed.
Paul is currently preparing for his boxing match with former UFC champion Tyron Woodley, which takes place on August 29 under Showtime.
