Jake Paul believes he would beat Canelo Alvarez in a boxing match.
YouTuber Jake Paul believes he has what it takes to beat pound-for-pound No. 1 Canelo Alvarez at his own game.
Paul is gearing up to face former UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley on Aug. 29 — but the brash 24-year-old is also targeting ‘money fights’ against Alvarez and Conor McGregor.
Paul is confident in his chances against both men but seems hyper-focused on the idea of beating Canelo, who Paul claims is roughly 37 pounds lighter than him.
“I’m very confident,” Paul told Maxim’s Tom Taylor in a recent interview. “He’s a killer at 168 pounds, but people forget that I naturally walk around at about 205, so there’s a big weight difference. There’s a big height advantage. Canelo hasn’t fought someone who has really challenged him in the last couple of fights. They’ve all been easy guys who just sort of fall on their ass.”
“I just need to continue on the path that I’m on now: Getting experience under my belt, fighting tougher and tougher people as my career goes on, continuing to stay in the gym every single day, and continuing to be the pay-per-view star that I am and selling tens of millions of dollars in pay-per-views. At the end of the day, this is a business. If Canelo sees that, he’s going to want to get in on the business”.
Canelo would likely turn down the fight on principle, but there’s no denying that Paul is one of the hottest commodities in combat sports right now.
Paul vs. Woodley is scheduled to take place on Aug. 29 at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio.
