Jason High will need to put his lightweight plans on hold. Fresh off a win at UFC 167, High has been thrown back into the fire with a welterweight clash against the streaking Chechen, Adlan Amagov, at UFC Fight Night 35.
UFC officials announced the match-up on Sunday, as well as a middleweight bout between Brian Houston (4-1) and Trevor Smith (10-4) for the same event.
Despite starting his UFC career off with a quick submission loss to Erick Silva, the 32-year-old High (18-4) has since rebounded to score dominating victories over James Head and Anthony Lapsley, the former of which High finished via guillotine choke in just under two minutes.
Amagov (13-2-1), meanwhile, pushed his UFC record to a perfect 2-0 with a violent first-round knockout of T.J. Waldburger at UFC 166. The blitzkrieg left Waldburger unconscious and unable to leave the Octagon of his own accord.
UFC Fight Night 35 takes place January 15, 2014 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia. An updated fight card can be seen below.
