Former IFL welterweight champ, and one fleeting moment Strikeforce welterweight contender, Jay Hieron (19-4) is apparently a free agent after he Tweeted a couple of messages late Friday evening that he’d been released from his Strikeforce contract.
I finally got my release from SF… Y’all know what I’m about to do!!!!!!!
I have been threw alot of Shit this past year but I have trained the whole time. So all WWs take notice I’m coming for somebodys head…
It’s highly unlikely that we’ll see Hieron heading to Japan or a smaller National promotion, so fans should probably expect him in a UFC octagon soon.
Hieron has won seven straight fights, including two under the Strikeforce banner, with wins over Joe Riggs at “Strikeforce: Miami” and Jesse Taylor at the “Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg” show last summer. Taylor was a last minute replacement for Nick Diaz who was to face Hieron for the inaugural Strikeforce welterweight title. Diaz failed to appear for drug testing and was removed from the card along with the belt. Instead of fighting on the televised broadcast portion of the Strikeforce event, Hieron was relegated to the preliminary card, losing some sponsorship revenue but the promotion tried to make it up by streaming the fight live on the internet.
