Joanna Jedrzejczyk just tagged ONE Championship on Instagram, then deleted it.
Because the Polish puncher recently lost her strawweight strap, then failed to capture gold at 125 pounds, the idea of sticking around in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and keeping gates in two different weight glasses must be wholly unappealing.
That’s merely speculation on my part, but understandable when former champions get bored or want more money, or just get sick and tired of all the bullshit under the UFC banner and want to compete elsewhere.
A door that apparently swings both ways.
As expected, Jedrzejczyk’s tag, first reported by Jed Meshew, caused an uproar with the mixed martial arts (MMA) fans who follow her on social media, even long after it was deleted. As of this writing, she’s still under contract with UFC, though her relationship with promotion president, Dana White, may have taken a hit following this debacle.
Jedrzejczyk (15-3) jumped out to a perfect 14-0 start to her cage fighting career, along with five finishes, but has since gone just 1-3. That includes a pair of defeats to newly-crowned strawweight titleholder, Rose Namajunas.
Anyone think we’ll see the former champion in Singapore by year’s end?
