Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) refused to give Michelle Waterson at shot at the current 115-pound titleholder (because of this), but did provide her the next best thing in the form of ex-strawweight champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
The pair are expected to headline the promotion’s “Fight Night” event on ESPN+, scheduled for Oct. 12, 2019 in a city and venue to be named. That’s according to ESPN, which notes that verbal agreements are currently in place.
Waterson (17-6) is the winner of three straight after her commanding performance against former title contender, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, back in March. The 33 year-old “Karate Hottie” stands at 5-2 inside the Octagon, with her two losses coming to Rose Namajunas and Tecia Torres.
As for Jedrzejczyk (15-3), the former champion is trying to regain her footing after coming upon short in her last three title fights, including an unsuccessful trip up to flyweight, where she was summarily expelled by 125-pound deity, Valentina Shevchenko. A victory over Waterson may inch her closer to the winner of this fight.
No other bouts have been announced for the Oct. 12 fight card, but you can expect that to change sooner. rather than later.
