Jeff Mayweather: I can train Ronda Rousey to become a decent striker in ‘2-3 months’

Jeff Mayweather claims he can help improve Ronda Rousey’s striking game in a short period of time.

Since her first UFC loss in the hands of Holly Holm in November 2015, many have been pinning the blame on her current striking coach Edmond Taverdyan. Even Nick Diaz’s boxing coach Richard Perez questioned the manner of which Rousey is being trained over at the Glendale Fighting Club.

Recently, Jeff Mayweather echoed the same opinions, stating that Rousey should “get a real boxing coach.”

“I think if she doesn’t, she might as well just retire,” Mayweather told Helen Yee of Eyes on the Game. “If she continues doing what she’s doing with the same guy, she’s not gonna get no better. That’s already proven.”

Mayweather has had several MMA fighters under his tutelage, including Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal and Roy Nelson. “Jazzy Jeff” says he is also willing to take Rousey under his wing, and is even confident that he could help improve her striking in a short amount of time.

“I would say probably, maybe two to three months,” Mayweather said when asked how long it would take for Rousey to become a “decent striker”. “She knows how to fight, but it’s just that she hasn’t been taught the right way, that’s all. So I don’t think it would take that long.”

In a separate interview, Jeff’s elder brother Floyd Mayweather Sr. also offered his services to Rousey, despite the tirades she had previously thrown towards his son’s way.

“I would think that she would need at least three good fights with me. And if she does it the way I tell her to do it, then I’m pretty sure you’re gonna see some W’s on her end,” Floyd Sr. said.
