Former UFC strawweight champion Jessica Andrade does not mind fighting a couple more times before going for the 125 belt.
Even though former UFC strawweight champion Jessica Andrade got her foot into the flyweight division by beating the number one fighter in the rankings, she is willing to have one or even two more fights before challenging the champion.
Just 11 days ago, Bate-Estaca’ finished Katlyn Chookagian with some vicious body shots with only five seconds left in the first round to start her run in the division. However, Jessica is evidently in no rush to fight for the belt next, since she knows how frustrating it can for a rising contender to be skipped by a more seasoned veteran like herself.
“I believe this is the way. It’s a ladder,” Andrade told Combate. “One more fight, then maybe I could fight for the belt. I have to fight those girls who are already in line, I can’t dispute that. I know what it’s like to wait in line, to think your time has come, only for another person to come along and skip over you. It’s rough. I’m sure the UFC will pair me up against Calvillo or Murphy next.”
“We still need to wait for the result between Valentina and Jennifer, too,” Jessica continued. “The champion will probably want to take break, too. We know what it’s like to go through a camp, it’s exhausting. After a win, you want to take a break to rest. Until all of that happens, it’ll be a while. The UFC will probably have booked one or even two more fights for me. Who knows, I might have two more fights before the belt.”
Before defeating Chookagian, Jessica Andrade (21-8) was on a two-fight losing skid, with a TKO defeat to Weili Zhang in August 2019 and a July split decision loss to Rose Namajunas.
