The UFC’s June 13th main event is expected to feature former women’s flyweight title challenger Jessica Eye.
Cynthia Calvillo is moving up a weight class, and also venturing into her first scheduled five-round main event.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reports that the UFC is targeting June 13th for a women’s flyweight matchup between Calvillo and former title challenger Jessica Eye.
Eye (15-7, 1 NC) seemingly stalled out at bantamweight, where she lost four consecutive bouts before moving back to 125 lbs in 2018. From there, she rattled off wins over Kalindra Faria, Jessica-Rose Clark, and Katlyn Chookagian to earn a title shot against Valentina Shevchenko. Needless to say, it went poorly and she suffered a frightening head kick KO loss at UFC 238. Eye did bounce back with a decision win over Viviane Araujo, but missed weight by five pounds.
Calvillo (8-1-1) had been fighting at strawweight, but her struggles on the scale have led to the move up to 125 lbs. She badly missed weight and fought to a draw against Marina Rodriguez last December, and also missed weight for her submission win over Poliana Botelho in 2018. Her lone loss in her young career came by decision against former UFC champion Carla Esparza back in 2017. Calvillo holds notable wins over Joanne Calderwood and Cortney Casey.
No venue or broadcast details have been announced. Other fights slated for June 13th include Karl Roberson vs. Marvin Vettori and Jordan Espinosa vs. Mark De La Rosa.
