A barnburner is on tap for the main event of the UFC’s event in Atlantic City, as two of the sport’s most exciting fighters will collide on July 16.
Fresh off a pair of fantastic finishes, New Jersey native Jim Miller and “Cowboy” Donald Cerrone will square off in a five-round lightweight fight at the Revel Casino-Hotel. The Press of Atlantic City broke news of the fight Thursday.
Cerrone (23-6, 1 no-contest) has a stated goal of fighting six times in 2014. He’s 2-0 with a pair of memorable finishes thus far. At UFC on FOX 10 in Chicago on Jan. 25, he dropped Adriano Martins with a first-round head kick. Then, at UFC on FOX 11, Cerrone choked out Edson Barboza in the first round of their fight.
Between the UFC and WEC, the Jackson’s MMA fighter has 14 career postfight bonuses, including each of his past three fights.
Miller (24-4, 1 NC), meanwhile, is one of the sport’s most enduring and respected fighters. The Whippany, N.J. native has won three in a row (minus a no-contest), with his past two victories being first-round submission wins. For his part, Miller has six career UFC postfight bonuses.
Cerrone, for his part, is excited about the fight. “Thank you Jim! Let’s dance,” Cerrone tweeted, after news of the fight broke.
