Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) strawweight contender, Michelle Waterson, thought UFC Fight Night 161 opponent, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, might be playing mind games when telling the promotion last week that she would be unable to make the 115-pound limit for their Oct. 12 headliner, scheduled for Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
That’s starting to sound like a fairly accurate assessment after watching Jedrzejczyk make weight — sans towel — just 20 minutes into the early and official proceedings, which have a two-hour window for fighters to make their respective marks.
Great news for unimportant Tampa fans, bad news for this strawweight.
Waterson weighed in at 115 pounds on the nose, perhaps good practice for a potential Weili Zhang title fight, as championship bouts do not afford a one-pound allowance. The winner of the UFC Fight Night 161 main event is expected to face “Magnum” in early 2020.
