John Dodson asked for a quick turnaround after his latest victory, and he got it. The TUF 14 winner has agreed to replace an injured Ian McCall against flyweight newcomer Scott Jorgensen at UFC on FOX 9.
UFC officials announced the match-up on Tuesday.
McCall, who was forced to withdraw last week due to a hand injury, posted a photo of the gruesome damage on The UG and stated that he hoped to return within “six weeks or faster.”
In his place steps in Dodson (15-6), the No. 2 ranked UFC flyweight who recently cemented his status with a blistering ‘Knockout of the Night’ performance against newcomer Darrell Montague at UFC 166.
Overall Dodson has won six of his last seven contests, defeating a who’s who list which includes John Moraga, T.J. Dillashaw, Tim Elliott, Jussier Formiga and Montague, sandwiched between a lone, narrow decision loss to UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson.
Jorgensen (14-7), meanwhile, hopes a change in weight class proves to be the remedy for his recent troubles. The 5-foot-4 former bantamweight contender has dropped three of his past four fights, though all three have come against top-5 fighters Renan Barao, Urijah Faber and Eddie Wineland.
