Welterweight contender Gunnar Nelson could face Darren Till in the main event of UFC London in March.
The UFC is still searching for a main event for its March 17th event in London, England, and they may be close to resolving that problem.
SBG Ireland head coach John Kavanagh revealed on Twitter that the UFC offered Gunnar Nelson a fight with rising welterweight contender Darren Till, and that Nelson has agreed to the matchup.
So @ufc have offered @GunniNelson v @darrentill2 main event #UFCLondon we’ve agreed so hoping to hear confirmation soon how do you guys like the match up? I’m reminded of the Thatch fight, big strong striker but I think Till is tougher challenge. One way to find out… pic.twitter.com/b7U81FpzBf

Nelson (16-3-1) is coming off a KO loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio in last July’s UFC Glasgow main event, although there was controversy over uncalled eye pokes leading up to the finish. The Icelandic BJJ standout started his UFC career 4-0, but has gone 3-3 in his last six. His most recent win was an impressive submission of Alan Jouban at last year’s UFC London.
Till (15-0-1) has become one of the most intriguing talents on the UFC roster. The Liverpool native holds an Octagon record of 4-0-1, and in his last outing, he thrashed Donald Cerrone in the opening round of their UFC Gdansk main event in October. It’s by far the biggest win to date for Till, who’d expressed interest in taking on Stephen Thompson shortly after the Cerrone fight.
UFC Fight Night: London streams on UFC Fight Pass, and so far the biggest fight confirmed for that card is a light heavyweight rematch between Jimi Manuwa and Jan Blachowicz.
