It looks like Johny Hendricks has finally made the jump to 185 pounds.
Johny Hendricks has had major issues making the welterweight limit over the last couple of years. This is no secret. So when he wasn’t able to hit 171 again in a recent bout with Neil Magny, his run in that division was over. Now he’ll look for a fresh start at middleweight when he takes on former Bellator champ Hector Lombard at UFC Halifax next month.
Combate was the first to report the news.
Hendricks (17-6, 12-6 UFC) has lost three bouts in a row, with the most recent coming to Magny in a close decision at UFC 207 last month. Lombard (34-6-1, 2 NC, 3-4, 1 NC UFC) who had a short run at welterweight before coming back to 185 for his last bout, has lost two in a row to Magny and Dan Henderson. Both were wild fights.
Combate reported that the bout was set to be the new headliner for UFC Halifax, but MMA Junkie has shot that down, saying it’s unlikely to be on top. A new main event because necessary for the card after Stefan Struve pulled out of his bout with Junior dos Santos due to injury, and the UFC has been unable to find a suitable replacement to this point.
The UFC Fight Night 105 card goes down in Halifax, Nova Scotia on February 19th.
