Trevin Jones has also been fined and suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission due to the positive test.
Trevin Jones had the perfect UFC debut at UFC Vegas 7 in August, knocking out Timur Valiev to earn a $50,000 bonus. However Jones’ win has now been overturned to a no contest due to a positive marijuana test.
The Nevada Athletic Commission announced Wednesday that Jones’ win against Valiuev was overturned to a no contest. Jones was also suspended for four-and-a-half months by the NAC and fined $1,800, MMA Junkie revealed. The Guam-born fighter will have to pay a prosecution fee of $145.36 before he is relicensed in Las Vegas.
The bantamweight prospect Jones joins a long list of UFC fighters who have been handed suspensions due to marijuana use. UFC flyweight Tim Elliott and lightweight Luis Pena are just two of many that have been handed suspensions in the last couple of months.
Jones, 30, took to Instagram to address his suspension, and revealed he plans to return in January.
“The only thing I smoked was my opponent!! Thank you [UFC] for investing in me. I’ll see you guys out there in January.” Jones wrote.
