On Sunday, Daniel Cormier shared the news that his father had passed away after a long battle with cancer.

”Today I lost my hero to cancer,” Cormier wrote. “My father was the bravest, strongest, hardest working and most caring person I’ve ever known. Always the life of the party and made everyone he ever came in contact with feel good.”

The news came just a couple of weeks after losing his Heavyweight title to Stipe Miocic at UFC 241. Naturally, the mixed martial arts (MMA) world bombarded “DC” with their heartfelt condolences via social media and obviously many though private message.

Now, Daniel’s biggest rival, the man he’s exchanged punches with in and out of the Octagon, Jon Jones, has done the same.

Taking to Twitter, “Bones” took the opportunity to send Daniel a heartfelt message after hearing the tragic news.

“All beef aside, I’m really sorry about your loss DC. Know that he’s in heaven with the opportunity to watch you front row and center for the rest of your life,” said Jones. “Continue living a life that makes him proud. Thoughts go out to you and your family today.”

Two years ago, “Bones” himself lost a parent, as his mother, Camilla, lost her long battle to diabetes. And just like Jones did today, “DC” sent out his condolences to Jones and his family, as well.

At the end of the day, rivals or not, it’s a lot bigger than fighting.
