Recently, Strikeforce lightweight fighter Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal (23-7) expressed his need to “get paid” by getting back into the cage in order to support his family.

Now comes news from MMAjunkie.com that Strikeforce is trying to book a fight between the Florida fighter and former King of the Cage champion Bobby ‘King’ Green (19-5) for this November’s show.

Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Mir is expected to take place on November 3, 2012 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The main card, which could very well include the lightweight scrap between Masvidal vs. Green, will air on SHOWTIME while the prelim card will air live on SHOWTIME Extreme.

Masvidal bounced back from a loss by earning a split decision against Justin Wilcox this past July in Oregon, improving ‘Gamebred’s’ record to 3-1 over his last four outings. The defeat, a lightweight title bout versus Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez, ended in a unanimous decision loss for Masvidal after five rounds in San Diego. The Florida fighter earned decisions against K.J. Noons and Billy Evangelista in his other victories.

Green is 4-1 since joining Strikeforce in July 2011, winning four straight matches. ‘King’ won a unanimous decision in his most recent outing this past August, defeating Matt Ricehouse in San Diego. The former KOTC lightweight champ also earned victories against James Terry, via split decision, J.P. Reese, via third round rear-naked choke submission, and against Charon Spain, via arm-triangle choke in the second.

A win for Green is almost certain to earn him No. 1 contender status, while it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for Strikeforce to give Masvidal the next title shot should he win.
