From the look of things, Jorge Masvidal was handing out all the damage at Saturday’s UFC London. Yet the longtime vet apparently absorbed some of his own, as Masvidal reveals he suffered an injury on the card.
“Gamebred” knocked out Darren Till in the second round of their headliner, shocking and silencing the London crowd. But he’s receiving even more recognition for his post-fight brawl with welterweight Leon Edwards backstage. Masvidal nailed Edwards with his now-famous ‘three-piece and a soda’ after ‘Rocky’ began talking trash during ‘Gamebred’s’ ESPN interview.
He appeared on today’s episode of “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show” to discuss the fallout of UFC London, the brawl, and where he’s headed. Masvidal reiterated that he wants to fight for the title next, not face Edwards despite their obvious pre-installed rivalry.
There may be a roadblock in the way of that. Masvidal told Helwani that his foot is “jacked up” and he believes he sustained ligament damage in London:
Riding A Wheelchair
The injury was so significant that his manager Abe Kawa was pushing him around in a wheelchair today. He apparently suffered the damage when he kicked Till on the elbow and his foot swole up. He expects a quick recovery nonetheless:
He also revealed that he had not gotten the foot checked out but was planning on going to the doctor today:
Next Fight Uncertain
Depending on how serious the ligament damage is, Masvidal may or may not be headed for a quick turnaround. He teased one in his response to his brawl with Edwards, who called him out for July, yet this complicates things.
His next fight is uncertain, but his rising star power is not. When he heals up, Masvidal should return to a top-ranked challenge in his next fight. It most likely won’t be newly-crowned champion Usman, but he’s getting close.
