Jorge Masvidal vs. Leon Edwards joins a stacked lineup at UFC 269.
Jorge Masvidal vs. Leon Edwards has been added to the major league lineup for UFC 269.
Masvidal vs. Edwards joined a stacked card for UFC 269, taking place on Sat., Dec. 11 via ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV). The news was confirmed to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto by Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell. No location or venue has been finalized for the event.
Edwards (No. 3) vs. Masvidal (No. 6) joins a card that includes UFC Lightweight champion Charles Oliveira vs. Dustin Poirier, UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Pena, former UFC Bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt vs. Kai Kara-France, former champ Dominick Cruz vs. Pedro Munhoz, and Sean O’Malley vs. Raulian Paiva.
Masvidal (35-15) is coming off consecutive losses to reigning UFC Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman: first by unanimous decision at UFC 251 and then by second-round knockout (KO) at UFC 261 (watch here).
Edwards (19-3-0-1) rides a 10-fight undefeated streak dating all the way back to a Dec. 2015 decision loss to Usman. He has defeated Nate Diaz, Rafael dos Anjos, Gunnar Nelson, Donald Cerrone and Vicente Luque in that run. Some say he would have cinched a UFC Welterweight title fight if not for a near fifth-round rally by Diaz (watch here) at UFC 263.
