Seems like every Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter these days wants to transition over to the “sweet science” (sample). Either they really hate getting covered and smothered like a Denny’s hash brown (here’s looking at you, kid), or they really believe their boxing coaches when it comes time to hit mitts.
For a cautionary tale, click here.
Lately, we’ve had some pugilists chirping on social media about the possibility of cage fighting. Most of it can be attributed to next-level trolling, while other instances are just a headline grab for thirsty bitches like myself.
Anthony Joshua, however, sounds like he really means it.
“If people wanted it, and I felt in my heart it was the right decision, why not? It’s just another fight,” Joshua told Conan O’Brien. “I’d have to train, I wouldn’t just do it for a paycheck. I have to take it serious. Why make the money if you can’t enjoy it? I would consider it if my heart told me it was the right thing for me.”
Joshua (21-0) captured the WBO title and retained the WBA, IBF and IBO belts with his unanimous decision win over Joseph Parker back in March (recap here). The scorecards snapped his 20-fight streak of violent knockout finishes.
That’s probably why promotion president Dana White is so interested, though it appears ZUFFA is after him for his exploits inside the boxing ring — for the right price — and not the promise of a future cage fight.
At least for now.
