Apparently a 182 lbs catchweight was too much to ask for.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is nothing like his dad. He has none of the discipline, drive, ability, etc. and it often leads to him either pulling out of fights or having some sort of screw-up during fight week.

For Saturday’s matchup vs. Anderson Silva, it’s already business as usual.

At Friday’s weigh-in, Chavez Jr came in at 184 lbs for what was supposed to be a 182 lbs catchweight against the former UFC middleweight champion and MMA legend. That weight miss cost him $100k, which will go to Silva, who had the decency to make weight like a professional.

You have to go all the way back to, uh, Chavez’s last fight for his previous weight miss. He was four pounds over the 168 lbs limit against Daniel Jacobs and coughed up $1 million of his $3 million purse as a result. Oh yeah, he also skipped the drug test which is why he’s under suspension by both Arizona and Nevada and can’t even compete in the United States.

Overall he’s missed weight at least four times and had a couple of other bouts changed to catchweights during fight week because clearly he wasn’t going to make the contracted limit. There’s a reason why there was a $1 million per pound penalty in place in case either her or Canelo Alvarez came in heavy for their 2017 bout… and it wasn’t in case Canelo missed weight.

Chavez Jr vs. Silva takes place in Mexico on Saturday night at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT on Fite.tv.
